Video: New Endless Ocean Luminous Overview Trailer Teases "Limited-Time" Event Dives

Day one for me. So excited for this.

Oh yay, another game with limited time stuff so you're forced to play it in that time period to experience it.

I think we've had enough of those. Honestly that puts a bit of a damper on this one for me. Not a deal breaker though.

Because its what "the people" want nowdays apparently. Apart from me and you it would appear. If the bulk of this game is geared towards online play and there isn't a substantial single player in the same vein as EO2 i will write it off my list instantly.

On Instagram the reactions under this game's marketing are horrendous. So many people don't seem to understand what this game is. I myself am very excited, even though I haven't played any of the previous entries of this series. I'm definitely getting a copy somewhere down the line! It seems such a relaxing and magical game.

@romanista yeah its a great game.

I don't see people moaning about splatfests which are limited timed events, same with other big live service games like Apex Legends, Monster Hunter and Overwatch 2 which get player count boosts during these events. I see these events as a great way to get people back into the game after not touching it for a while.

Intrigues me as a relaxing game. I'm just hoping this isnt another Mario sports title that we've seen on switch where they're placing alot of emphasis on online with not enough single player content

@UltimateOtaku91 True but those series have had them for a long time now. If Endless Ocean had always had limited time events there would be content in the first two games that would be impossible to play by normal means today, as will be the case with Luminous in the future. At least the first two will always be complete experiences, even for newcomers in 2024.

@UltimateOtaku91 I think most people have problems with limited time events because of FOMO. Pokémon is great at creating this phenomenon by offering time limited Legendaries extremely close after launch, which forces quite a few people to buy the game close to the release date, instead of waiting for discounts to get the game. If you are not vulnerable to FOMO, then it doesn't matter. Unfortunately a lot of people are and marketing people know how this works perfectly.

Oh I just want to jump in the ocean and let myself be carried away by the sea currents, while I am just floating and enjoying the view or taking a nap.

Great relaxing vibes in the trailer, with very good music. Now I am curious, what the story mode is about. Collecting will be so much fun. Time to be friends with every fishy.

Multiplayer and teaming up? I don't think so, man.

Curious to see how this one pans out. If all the online content is free it’s just icing on the cake, ACNH had a lot of timed events that were fun. If they start charging that’s annoying.

I’m waiting on the Switch 2 version to even consider it, this is the type of game where graphics do matter and this looks a bit too much like the Wii games for my liking. The 2nd game was very good, but that was 15 years and 3 TVs ago, played it on a 250 pound (that’s weight not price fyi) square SD tube.😂

@FishyS I am really scared about the reaction emoji shown in the lower right of the screen. People online (and in Mario party super stars) just seem to spam them like crazy.

@UltimateOtaku91, every single one of those examples you gave outside of Monster Hunter (which never really had a strong story/adventure element to it anyway) was live service from the start, so it's to be expected.

Endless Ocean is a bit different in that the last couple had some sort of deliberately crafted single player adventure/exploration core to them, so sort of throwing that away (or at least to the side) in favor of a procedurally generated, limited time live-service approach is bound to ruffle the feathers of some pre-existing fans (few of them as there are, given the series niche status).

Granted, even as someone who hasn't played the originals, the large online/procedurally generated focus of this one is dampening my excitement for it, as I happen to prefer expertly hand crafted single player experiences. Though I still have my eye on it.

I still can't tell what they want this game to be. Half of the marketing is calm, relaxing, almost meditative footage, the other half is shoving large groups of players and communication spam in your face at every opportunity while singleplayer features are mentioned in an offhand sentence on the website. These two things clash so hard I genuinely have no idea what to think about this.

Am I the only diver who is bothered by the gauges and octopus just dangling behind the diver and not in any way hooked to the front of their BC?

If the Switch is indeed in the twilight of it's years, as is the general consensus, it's interesting that they are making the effort to maintain ongoing content. I bet they will release this game on Switch 2 as well, and continue adding cross-platform content and events.

I'm glad the online is optional. I loved the first 2 games on Wii but was concerned with the online with others. Day 1 for me now it's optional.

I hope the robo-voice doesn't autoplay, because it's horrible lol. I miss when robo-voices sounded like the Pokedex, and not like Siri.

I'm a little more interested in the game after seeing the lobster hitch a ride. I don't expect it will be excellent, but I like to support Nintendo whenever they branch out a little from their standard IP fare. Even if they've taken away a LOT of the shine with their inexpensive but ultimately uninviting design choices (including but not limited to procedurally-generated environments).

It's impossible not to compare Endless Ocean: Luminous to Fashion Dreamers, seeing as they both have mostly ditched the crafted story content for a multiplayer focus. Friends, I LOVE multiplayer. I'm all about multiplayer. I live and breathe multiplayer. But developers need to stop emptying games of worthwhile content to add it. Someone mentioned Mario sports games above, and they're also the perfect illustration of this problem.
After Fashion Dreamers, I am desperate for a proper Style Savvy, but I am also desperate for it to keep Fashion Dreamers' multiplayer. Just...add it to the real content. Don't replace it.
And I expect the same will be true after this game. I'll want a new, proper Endless Ocean, hand-crafted and content rich...but yeah, with multiplayer diving with my friends, so I can share my sense of awe and wonder.
And show off my lobster friend.

I think I had played one of those games back on the Wii, but I can't really remember. It certainly didn't leave a strong impression on me. But that's fine. I like having a sort of screensaver on my TV once in a while.

The design of the fishes look quite good (for a Nintendo game), but the animations look pretty off. Especially when the camera is turning 180° and the diver stays in the same exact position.

Hope everyone will find what they're looking for with this game in anyways.

I don’t understand the appeal of this game. What is the point? Why would I invite my friend to explore together? Wouldn’t that just shorten the game because we’ll catalogue everything faster?

And this coming from someone who loved Journey, Abzu and Sky: Children of light. So I’m not new to relaxing exploration games. But this one seems…empty? Or maybe overpriced is the correct term. 50 bucks is a tough sell.

I get that they want to have ongoing continued engagement, but if they're going to do limited timed events, at least cycle them so that if you missed it you know you can get it again a few months later?

I still don't have Walking Wake or Iron Leaves.
